When to Schedule?
Schedule your photo session on a day that you and/or your children will be relaxed and well rested.
If possible, try not to schedule other appointments on the same day.
Find a time that will work well with naps and meals.
Babies and toddlers are often at their best right after a nap.
Have everyone eat a light snack before the shoot.
How to Dress
The goal of any portrait is to direct the viewer's attention to the face or faces in the portrait.
Clothing should be a solid color except white. Avoid busy logos, stripes, or words that may distract from the children’s faces. Simple clothing in medium to dark tones of brown rust, burgundy, green, or blue are great choices when photographed against a dark background.
Avoid light colors that approximate flesh tones such as beige, tan, peach, and yellow. Darker shades are often more flattering.
For outdoor portraits, the best outfit colors are the colors found in nature: Browns, tans, blues, greens.
The color that each person wears should look good next to the colors of the rest of the family.
Everyone in the family should be dressed similarly so no one person stands out.
Bring at least one change of clothing for babies or children.
Some clients prefer a very formal portrait, and dress their children in stiffer, more formal attire, while others prefer a more casual look and prefer a polo/t-shirt look.
Indoor
An indoor studio offers a stable and predictable environment.
The resulting photos have a finished, professional look. We offer many different props setups depending on the age and gender of your child and your preferences.
It’s up to you!
Outdoor
There’s nothing like tapping into the beauty of nature to enhance your child’s image. Outdoor photos have a certain relaxed, natural beauty to them.
Outdoor images often appear less posed, resulting in a more candid look. When taking pictures outdoors, the environment and lighting is less controllable, so we may have to work around the schedule of the sun.
Early to mid-morning and late afternoon usually offer optimal lighting for a photo shoot.
